PERIYAR TBI
Periyar Technology Business Incubator is established in order to have a sustainable
economic activity in Periyar PURA villages , and to support the changing cropping pattern of
agriculture from water-intensive crops into dry land horticulture like fruits, vegetables,
flowers and medicinal plants. In particular, the focus will be on herbal health products
.
The project has an association with Periyar College of Pharmaceutical Sciences for Girls,
Tiruchirapalli. With a view to providing a full-fledged facility, the project proposal on
Periyar TBI had been submitted for funding from Department of Science and
Technology, Govt. of India and it was approved
Knowledge-driven enterprises are now recognized to generate value-added employment
worldwide and the concept of technology business incubators is coming up in India also.
The ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India has also initiated a similar
management by a professional team and run as a business.
Periyar TBI motivates, guides and assists the incubatees to develop technologies and
manufacture herbal health products. The Periyar TBI will transfer the technologies into
business opportunities and promote small/medium enterprises. Incubatees preferably
women will be encouraged to start business in herbal health care products. The Periyar
TBI houses herbal formulation units, tissue culture facility, quality standardization
laboratory and pre-clinical and clinical study facilities. Consultancy services are also
offered in technology up-gradation, modernization and new projects in the thrust area of
herbal health products. Training programmes are offered in improved agro-techniques
and mass cultivation of economically viable medicinal plants, processing herbal
formulations, business opportunities, analytical techniques, Good Laboratory Practices
(GLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and other statutory requirements.
Periyar TBI will serve the students of certificate, diploma and degree programmes,
women self-help groups, and farmers among all other prospective tenant incubatees.
Unemployed and under employed will be encouraged to start new ventures. Deserving
less literate or even illiterate women with entrepreneurial skills will be trained and
assistance will be given to develop profitable enterprises.
