Visit of Mr.N.Noguchi, Director Genaral of JETRO & Mr.Nair Director of JETRO Visited PeiyarPURA Mr.N.Noguchi, Director Genaral of Japan External Trade Organisation New Delhi & Mr.Nair Director of JETRO visited Periyar PURA complex. An exposition of Periyar PURA SHG members Handi Crafts products was arranged on the day of their visit. The Deligates viewed the showcase and a discussion about exporting the products to Japan took palce.

Meeting with newly elected Panchayat Presidents of Periyar PURA Villages. Held at Budalur on 12.12.2006 meeting presided by Budalur President Mr. Thanga Kennady.
Periyar PURA Technical Director, Joint Director, Coordinators, Village Coordinator of Periyar PURA and SHG organizers participated. Future plan of action was prepared at the end of the discussion.

Gram Sabha Meeting of Manjapettai Village and Awareness on Periyar PURA

Gram Sabha meeting of Manjapettai village Panchayat was held on 14.11.06 presided over by Mr. N. Srinivasan, village Panchayat President. Dr. N. Ramachandran Principal and Director Periyar PURA, Periyar Maniammai College of Technology for Women, Graced the occasion. The President explained the programme of work for execution, which included, Ø Renovating water bodies and drainage Ø Providing sanitary facilities to individual houses Ø Improved houses with basic amenities to be provided to the needy Ø Payment of unemployment allowance to the educated unemployed youth Ø Identification of Below Poverty Line families Ø Tree planting for environment protection The president requested Director Periyar PURA Dr. N.Ramachandran set up Bamboo processing unit at Manjapettai. He was confident that Manjapettai gram panchayat would become as the best in Pudukkottai District and earn Rs. 10 lakhs prize money. Pricipal Dr. N. Ramachanran in his address highlighted the activities of Periyar PURA in the sixty-five villages selected by PMCTW Vallam, for Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas. He complimented the president who had been reelected as Manjapettai panchayat president. He listed the training programs being organized by Periyar PURA for technical empowerment of youth for decent earning and stressed on the need for sanitation to have a healthy life. Dr. Sami Subramanian, Technical Director, Periyar PURA emphasized the need for scientific agriculture and growing market oriented crops like bamboo, jatropha and medicinal plants. Dr. T. Eevera Coordinator, Co-coordinator Mr. K. Pandiyan, National Mission on Bamboo Applications, and Mr. M.N. Stalin also addressed. Mobile medical Unit of Periyar Maniammai College of Technology for Women Vallam, conducted a medical camp on the occasion.

Setting up two water purification plants at the villages in Dharmapuri district. and a research plant in the campus of Periyar Maniammai College of Technology for Women(PMCTW).

Periyar PURA, Pure-O-Tech., and San-Diego State University has planned to set up water purification plants in two villages of Dharmapuri district and a research plant in the campus of PMCTW with the support of Tamilnadu Government. Dr.N. Ramachandran, Director of Periyar PURA , Dr.Muthiah Mariappan,former Vice Chancellor Bharathidasan University, Dr. G. Krishnamoorthy Professor San-Diego Sate university, USA, Mr.R.Sowmiyan Environmental Engineer, and Mr.S.Swaminathan, Chemist visited the Dharmapuri villages on October 25, 2006 and had detailed inspection and discussion with the TWAD board Executive Engineer Mr.A.Danusu . Water samples were collected for chemical Analysis by TWAD engineers. Dr.N. Ramachandran , Dr.Muthiah Mariappan, and Dr. G. Krishnamoorthy followed it by a Meeting on October 26, 2006 with the chairman of TWAD board Thiru. Swaran Singh IAS in his office at Chennai.

Visit of BRCM PURA Team from Hariyana

Periyar PURA is evolving as a national model for rural development. Several Institutions in various states of India are visiting to have a first hand information on its functioning. Shri. Susilkumar Trustee of BRHD – Rural Sankalp Society, Bahal Dist. Bhiwani, Haryana, Shri Dhirendra Joshi, PURA Coordinator, Shri Prem Kumar, Project Officer and Naveen Jha of BRCM – PURA, Bahal,Haryana visited Periyar PURA on 24.10.2006. Periyar PURA team members guided the visitors around the campus, Muthuveerakandiyanpatti, Veeramarasanpettai and Achampatti Biofarm. The visitors interacted with the faculty to get acquainted with the success story of Periyar PURA.

October 14 - Birth Day Tree Planting In celebration of the seventy sixth Birthday of His Excellency The President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Seventy-six Jatropha Seedlings were planted at Periyar Maniammai College of Technology for Women (PMCTW), Vallam, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. Dr.N.Ramachandran Principal PMCTW & Director Periyar PURA initiated the planting on 14.10.2006. Periyar PURA Technical Director Dr. Sami Subramanian, Director DOSS Prof. L.J.Subramanian, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering Prof. R.Paranthaman, Dean UG Studies Prof.S.Senthamilkumar the students of PMCTW participated and planted Jatropha saplings. Mr. K.Pandiyan Agricultural Officer, Ms. S.Ilavarasi Lecturer and G.K.Balasubramanian Periyar PURA Co-ordinater arranged for the Jatropha sapling plantings.

Mr P.ChandraSekaran Secretary Tamilnadu Foundation Inc. USA. Tamilnadu Chapter visited Periyar PURA on 11th September, 2006. He inspected all the hi-tech gadgets available in the Periyar Maniammail college campus. He also visited Veeramarasanpettai and Achampatti Periyar PURA Villages and had interaction with the villagers.

May 10 - Periyar TBI (Periyar Technology Business Incubator) has arranged for a product show on organically produced horticultural and agricultural produces and products. This show was arranged in collaboration with Layco"s Nature Food Shop (An exclusive Organic Shop for the first time in Thanjavur). Mr.G.Sithar , the promotor of the shop and the concept "natural farming" has delivered a talk on the importance of naturally grown food stuff for the well being. Principal in his capacity as the chairperson Board of Governors, Periyar TBI, has briefed about the traditional foods which has both nutritional and medicinal value. Deans, Directors, Heads and staff members of the college attended the show. Press and media persons were also invited.

MAY 03 - PeriyarPURA in association with MICO-Bosch, ISTE(INdian Society for Technical Education)and CEAAT(Civil Engineering Architect Association Thanjavur) organised vocational training programme for the unemployed rural youths(Gents/Ladies)of PeriyarPURA villages in the following areas : Plumbing, Carpentery, Masonry(One month),Electrical and Motor rewinding(Two months)

Telemedicinal Facility in Periyar PURA villages.
In order to provide telemedicinal facility to the remote rural areas of Periyar PURA villages, the telemedicine kit was demonstrated to the volunteers of periyar PURA on 4th march 2006.The possibility of establishment of the telemedicinal unit in each village was explored.
